Caring for a 3D-printed item
A 3D-printed map needs no special care — PLA is stable and lives on a shelf for years. A few simple rules keep it looking new, and one single real taboo saves you from a ruined model.
The one taboo: heat
PLA softens from ~60 °C — easily reached in two places: a car dashboard in summer and right next to an oven or radiator. A heat-warped model can't be restored. An ordinary sunny windowsill is safe; direct sun at room temperature only slightly fades bright colors over years.
Cleaning: dry or barely damp
Dust comes off best with a soft dry brush that reaches between the buildings. Twice a year wipe with a damp cloth; just avoid solvents, acetone and alcohol cleaners — they etch the plastic surface.
A keychain can simply be washed with warm (not hot) soapy water.
Small repairs
If a tiny element chips off in a fall, ordinary cyanoacrylate super glue fixes it: a drop, press for 30 seconds, the seam is invisible. For a wall panel use picture-hanging tape or flat hooks — no drilling needed.
