Dad's birthday: a gift that carries the place he's from
Parents are hard to shop for — they “have everything”, and yet another shirt or tool doesn't spark much. Memory works instead: a 3D map of the city or village where dad grew up, with the street he walked to school and the river or park he recognises instantly, even after years away.
Why a childhood place beats another object
An object gift is forgotten in a week, while a map of the home yard stays on the shelf for years — and keeps sparking stories about how things used to look.
It works at any age and any budget: what matters is the accuracy of the place, not the price. Even if dad now lives in another city, a map of his home yard brings childhood back better than any card or social media post.
Which place to pick when there are several
If dad has moved a few times — school, first flat, the city where you yourselves were born — pick the one he brings up most often in conversation. That's a more accurate clue than any taste survey.
You can also make two smaller maps instead of one: the home village on its own, and the city where he spent most of his life on its own. Together on a shelf they trace the route of his life, not just one random point on it.
Being honest about villages and small towns
Map data comes from OpenStreetMap — large cities are drawn in detail, but villages and small towns sometimes have fewer buildings or roads mapped than actually exist.
Before ordering, check the 3D preview: if the village looks sparse on detail, it's better to widen the radius with the surrounding terrain, or pick a nearby town where dad worked or studied.
That's not a reason to drop the idea — even a handful of buildings and the road between them, shown in 3D, is often recognised instantly, because memory latches onto the shape of a street more than the amount of detail on it. If needed, the radius can be widened to include a nearby village or the road dad drove every day.
Three formats for any budget
A keychain with a map of his home street (from 170 ₴) — in his pocket every day, with the birth year engraved on the back.
A magnet (210 ₴) — for the kitchen where he has his morning coffee.
A 3D map (from 350 ₴) — the main shelf gift: buildings, roads, the park or forest nearby, with optional terrain relief. For a jubilee celebrated by the whole family, a multi-tile wall panel (/panno, from 1400 ₴) works well if several children want to chip in together.
How to make it in 5 minutes
Choose a product — keychain, magnet, or 3D map — find dad's hometown or village on the map and drag the frame over the right street or block.
A free 3D preview builds in 1–2 minutes — check whether there's enough detail before ordering a print.
When it will be ready
Printing and Nova Poshta dispatch take 2–4 business days, with online payment right on the site.
If dad lives in another city, specify his branch in the order — the parcel goes straight there, so there's no need to forward the gift yourself afterwards.
Not sure if the village you need is detailed enough in OSM — try the free 3D preview first, it takes under two minutes and costs nothing even if you end up picking a different place.
